Kentucky Highway 181 in Todd and Muhlenberg counties will forever be known as the Veterans Memorial Highway following action by the Kentucky General Assembly this year and one sign that will be posted along the route was unveiled at the Veterans Memorial Marker on the Elkton Public Square Wednesday morning.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield thanked the veterans who were on hand for the brief ceremony, saying the communities along the route are proud to honor all who have served.
Elkton Mayor Arthur Green says KY 181 connects people who value military service.
Local Navy veteran Tony Combs spear-headed the effort to give the route the designation and says it’s important to support veterans in many ways.
He and local Marine veteran Bruce Marklin unveiled the new sign.
Residents living on KY 181 will not see any change to their mailing address—it will remain Greenville Road north of Elkton and Guthrie Road south of the city.
