Todd Fiscal Court inks contract for comprehensive planning and zoning plan

Todd County Fiscal Court on Wednesday morning approved a contract with Plans and More, LLC of Logan County to draft a comprehensive plan as the county continues the process of potentially implementing countywide planning and zoning.

County Attorney Jeff Traughber says it’s an important step in the process after Elkton, Guthrie and Trenton have tentatively agreed to join in what would be a countywide planning commission.

It can take up to seven months to draft the plan and Traughber says it will then be looked over by all four government entities involved to see if it lives up to their goals for planning and zoning.

Todd Fiscal Court, which approved the contract unanimously, has expressed a desire to use planning and zoning as a mechanism to restrict what type of new growth may be on the drawing table for Todd County.

It’s not final that planning and zoning will happen or how it will look as there will still be public hearings and Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield and magistrates have asked for more public input on what it could look like.

Fiscal court had to postpone second reading of the county’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year, as software used by the county and Department for Local Government isn’t agreeing and that’s delayed getting the spending plan back.

Magistrate Alfred Blake reminded Todd County residents that the Allegre Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual barbecue fundraiser at 5 p.m. Saturday and Squire Billy Bryant says there will be a ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m. just south of the Penchem Tack Store on KY 181 to dedicate a Kentucky historical marker at the site of the state’s first Amish settlement from 1958.
