Hopkinsville student is heading to Harvard after being accepted to numerous universities

One of Hopkinsville’s own is celebrating after being accepted into numerous Ivy League universities, along with several state universities—but it’s Harvard that Hopkinsville High School Senior Rahkel Mills has chosen to attend.

That decision didn’t come easily to Mills, as he tells WHOP News that he had always been intent to attend Columbia University. But after careful consideration with many school advisors and family members, he ultimately chose Harvard because it had a lot of what he was looking for.

That list of acceptance letters was full of prestige, including the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, the University of Alabama, Vanderbilt University and New York University. Then came the Ivy Leagues, as Mills was accepted to Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, Brown University and Harvard. Several of those came with full-ride scholarship offers.

Mills says he will be paving his own road at Harvard by studying Public Health, combining Sociology, African American History and more.

He says his parents are beyond proud and he feels blessed and glad to have achieved this, but he’s also touched by how the community has celebrated with him.

Mills says while he will be going off to pursue his education and whatever else awaits him in the future, he intends to never forget about Hopkinsville, with the drive to serve his community how he can going forward.
