>>NFL Owners Approve Emergency QB Rule

(Eagan, MN)  — The NFL is reviving an old rule.  On Monday, league owners approved a rule that allows teams to designate an emergency quarterback on game day.  The rule comes on the heels of the NFC Championship Game when the San Francisco 49ers ran out of quarterbacks in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.  The rule will only apply to quarterbacks who are on a team’s 53-man roster, which means practice squad players are not eligible to be emergency quarterbacks even if they are elevated for that week’s game.  The emergency QB would be eligible for in-game activation if the rest of a team’s signal callers are unable to participate due to injury or ejection.
