FOP remembers those lost in line of duty at memorial service

Ten law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty in Christian County since 1893, and the local Fraternal Order of Police read their names and remembered others who are gone at their annual memorial service Thursday afternoon.

FOP President Mike Velez encouraged those attending to never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their communities.

Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby says his heart is forever with those who were lost and their families, saying he hopes they remember that they are not alone.

Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam says as long as he is in office, he will make sure local law enforcement is fully funded to best help them protect and serve.

Deputies with the Christian County Jail gave the Three Volley Salute and members of Fort Campbell’s Military Police Battalion were on hand for the ceremony.

A proclamation was read in honor of National Police Week, a wreath was laid in memory of those who ran into danger and the names of those ten were read aloud before the flags were lowered to half-staff in their memory.
