A Christian County Grand Jury will soon hear the murder charge against 65-year old Earl Guillemet of Hopkinsville, the man charged with the May 3 shooting death of 59-year old Dolores Hernandez at her East 18th Street apartment, following a preliminary hearing Friday morning in Christian District Court.
Hopkinsville police were called to the victim’s apartment about 1 p.m. on May 3 and found Hernandez dead with a close-range shotgun wound to the head, according to Hopkinsville Police Detective Sean Bean, who testified that officers used city camera surveillance footage to determine Guillemet as a person of interest.
Footage of him returning to the apartments where he lives on Hazel Street shows him handing a bag he was carrying near the scene of the crime to a woman who walks away and he’s then seen discarding items later determined to be clothes in dumpsters.
Detectives found the bag with clothing, a shotgun and shells inside a stack of tires behind the building.
During a police interview, Guillemet reportedly claimed to have been the victim’s pastor at some point.
Guillemet has denied causing any harm to Hernandez, according to Detective Bean.
After hearing the testimony, Judge Foster Cotthoff sent the case to the grand jury for consideration and possible indictment.
Guillemet is charged with murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and he’s jailed on a half-million-dollar bond.
