Gov. signs sports betting, medical marijuana bills

Governor Andy Beshear on Friday signed legislation into law that legalizes medical marijuana and sports betting in Kentucky.

In a few months Kentuckians will be able to go to a horse track or download an app on your phone to bet on sports and Governor Beshear says the tax revenue will stay in the commonwealth instead of going overseas or to another bordering state.

State Representative Steve West of Mason County helped shepherd the medical marijuana bill through the legislature and believes it will reduce addiction in Kentucky as people who are suffering with qualifying medical conditions will have an alternative to opioids.

Legislators and advocates who supported Senate Bill 47 and House Bill 551 were on hand to celebrate with the governor and members of his administration.
