(Undated) — Kentucky is on the road playing Ole Miss, Pre-Game at 6:30 on 98.7 Lite FM. The Wildcats fell to eighth-ranked Kansas in their last game and dropped to 14-and-7. Vanderbilt recently lost to Texas A-and-M. The Commodores are 10-and-11 and are also on the road playing fifth-ranked Alabama. Number-2 Tennessee won its fourth straight game after beating ninth-ranked Texas over the weekend. The Vols improved to 18-and-3 and will head to Florida tomorrow night. Louisville lost its 10th game in a row following a recent defeat to Notre Dame. The Cardinals are now 2-and-19 and will host Georgia Tech tomorrow. Memphis won big over Tulsa in its last game. The Tigers are now 17-and-5 and will host Tulane on Saturday.
Cason Wallace Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Kentucky men’s basketball freshman Cason Wallace picked up Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week laurels on Monday after averaging 12.0 points, 5.5 boards, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals for the week as the Wildcats split games at Vanderbilt and at home against No. 9 Kansas. The award is the third weekly SEC honor and second in as many weeks for a Wildcat. Oscar Tshiebwe earned SEC Player of the Week honors Jan. 23, while Wallace picked up his first conference Freshman of the Week award Dec. 27.
Hayes Earns C-USA Weekly Honors for Second Time
For the second time this season, WKU women’s basketball freshman guard Acacia Hayes has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week. She previously earned the award on Jan. 16. Hayes notched a pair of double-digit performances in WKU’s two wins last week against FIU and Florida Atlantic with 10 points in each game. She has scored 10-plus points in seven of the last eight games. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee native is currently WKU’s leading scorer, putting up 10.5 points per game. The freshman has been efficient on offense, notching the team’s leading field goal percentage at 47.1 percent (minimum of 100 field goal attempts). She’s also has the team’s second best 3-point shooting percentage at 36.6 percent.
Van Lith Named to Wooden Award Late Season Watch List
University of Louisville junior guard Hailey Van Lith was named one of 20 players to the Wooden Award Late Season Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Monday night. It is the first time in Van Lith’s career that she has been named to the Late Season Top 20 Watch List. Van Lith leads the Cardinals this season with 19.3 points per game and 3.5 assists per game. She ranks second on the team in rebounds with 5.0 per game. She ranks 11th nationally in points (441) and field goals made (161) this season and is 18th in minutes per game (36.5). She is second in the ACC and 24th nationally in points per game.
