(Undated) — College basketball returns tomorrow. Kentucky will square off against fifth-ranked Tennessee in Knoxville. The Wildcats recently fell to South Carolina and dropped to 10-and-6. The Vols cruised to victory in their last game against Vanderbilt and improved to 14-and-2. The Commodores dropped to 8-and-8 and will host Number-16 Arkansas. Louisville’s struggles on the season continued after a big loss to Clemson. The Cardinals have lost six in a row and are now 2-and-15. They’ll host North Carolina in the afternoon. Memphis recently fell to UCF in double-overtime. The Tigers dropped to 12-and-5 and will head to Temple on Sunday.
Kentucky Falls to No. 1 South Carolina
Maddie Scherr scored a career-high 25 points and dished out six assists but the Kentucky women’s basketball team lost to top-ranked South Carolina 95-66 on Thursday night at Memorial Coliseum. Scherr made 10 of 15 from the floor, including five of seven from behind the arc, on her way to setting a career high in points for the second consecutive game. The junior also had four rebounds and a steal in the game. Kentucky (8-9, 0-5 SEC) got 17 points from Jada Walker and 10 from Robyn Benton.
Cardinals Edged Out by #13/13 Virginia Tech, 81-79
The RV/RV University of Louisville women’s basketball team (13-6, 4-2) fought to the very end and came up just short in a 81-79 loss to #13/13 Virginia Tech (14-3, 4-3) Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum. In a game that featured 17 ties and 13 lead changes, the Cardinals were unable to come up with a bucket as time expired to extend the game. Guard Hailey Van Lith had her best scoring performance of the season with a game and season-high 29 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Morgan Jones scored a season-high 19 points and added a season-high nine rebounds. Mykasa Robinson was all over the floor with a season-high eight rebounds and six assists to go with six points and three steals.
Hale’s career night leads to defensive win over Gamecocks
Shamarre Hale scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team to a 47-43 ASUN Conference win against Jacksonville State, Thursday, in the Winfield Dunn Center. Hale’s double-double was the first by a Governor since D’Shara Booker’s 13-point, 10-rebound performance against Tennessee State in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals last season. It also was the first 20-point, 10-rebound double-double since APSU alumna Arielle Gonzalez-Varner had 21 points and 13 boards against Mississippi Valley State, Nov. 18, 2019.
APSU Falls to Lispcomb
Sean Durugordon recorded his second-straight double-double and third in the last four games despite the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team’s 87-65 loss to Lipscomb, Thursday, in ASUN Conference action. The Bisons ended the Governors’ five-game win streak in the Winfield Dunn Center.
