Kentucky Women Fall at Georgia

Robyn Benton scored 19 points, including the 1,000th point of her career, but the Kentucky women’s basketball team came up just short, falling at Georgia 64-60 on Thursday night at Stegeman Coliseum. Kentucky (8-7, 0-3 SEC) got 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals from Maddie Scherr.

Cardinals Push Past Georgia Tech 63-55

Hailey Van Lith registered 24 points, four rebounds, and four assists to lead the NR/RV Louisville women’s basketball team to a 63-55 victory over Georgia Tech Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center. The performance marks Van Lith’s third straight game with 20 or more points and the 10th time she eclipsed that mark this season. With the win, the Cardinals (12-5, 3-1) are now 10-0 all-time against the Yellow Jackets (9-6, 0-4). As a team, Louisville shot 45 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line. The Cards also forced 16 turnovers and score 19 points off of those turnovers. Olivia Cochran added 10 points, six rebounds, and a steal in the victory for the Cards. Morgan Jones tallied eight points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Mykasa Robinson chipped in with four points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals off the bench. Georgia Tech shot 40 percent from the field while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets were able to get 22 points off the bench in the loss. Kara Dunn scored 17 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and three-point range. Cameron Swartz and Bianca Jackson were able to score 10 points apiece off the bench.

WKU Women’s Basketball Falls at North Texas

WKU women’s basketball (4-8, 1-2 C-USA) fell on the road at North Texas (4-9, 1-2 C-USA), 84-76, on Thursday night in Denton. The Lady Toppers were down 11 at the end of the first quarter, but fought back to take a lead in the second. The second half featured four ties and seven lead changes. Aaliyah Pitts was WKU’s leading scorer for the second straight game with 16 points along with a career high eight rebounds and two assists. Alexis Mead added 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Jaylin Foster finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Lady Toppers connected on 14 threes in the game, tying the school record previously reached against Iowa (1/11/2017), North Carolina A&T (11/12/2021) and Middle Tennessee (2/26/2022). WKU’s 46 attempted 3-pointers were also a school record. In her first game back from injury that kept her out of nine games, Karris Allen had seven points, seven rebounds and two steals. WKU outrebounded North Texas 47-36, including 33 offensive rebounds. The 47 rebounds were a season high for the Lady Toppers. The Lady Toppers attempted 31 more field goals than North Texas (83-52), but the Mean Green shot 57.7 percent (30-52) from the floor while WKU shot 34.9 percent (29-83).

Tops Drop Game to North Texas

After falling behind early, WKU Hilltopper Basketball was never quite able to make up the deficit, after going down 21-2 in the first ten minutes, despite a second-half rally, dropping a game to North Texas 70-66 on Thursday night.

Stacheville is Dunk City

The Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team threw down three dunks Thursday, including two by Shon Robinson, to increase its season total to 28 and got 10 points from Rodrique Massenat, Sean Durugordon, and Carlos Paez in a 61-59 win over Florida Gulf Coast. The Governors won their fourth-straight game inside the Winfield Dunn Center and earned the program’s first ASUN Conference victory while ending the Eagles’ five-game win streak overall.

Roberson, Douglas reach double figures in loss to Owls

Jada Roberson and Tiya Douglas combined for 28 points, but Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team dropped a 66-57 ASUN Conference contest to Kennesaw State, Thursday, at the KSU Convocation Center. Kennesaw State (5-8, 1-1 ASUN) struck first in the night’s opening quarter, splitting a pair of free throw attempts before Mariah Adams put the Govs on the board with her first score, resulting in the first of 12 lead changes.  Tiya Douglas’ first of a career-high four three-pointers gave Austin Peay (6-6, 1-1 ASUN) a 6-5 advantage.

Racers Head North For Iowa Two-Step

The Murray State women’s basketball team embarks on their maiden MVC voyage to Iowa Friday to take on UNI at the McCleod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 6 p.m. The game will be a battle of teams undefeated in the MVC, as both the Racers and the Panthers swept their opening weekend of Valley games.

Racers Make First Trip Drake & UNI

The Murray State Racers (9-6, 4-1 MVC) hit the road for their first visit to the Hawkeye State to face the Drake Bulldogs (11-5, 2-3 MVC) when they tip Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Knapp Center in Des Moines. The game marks the Racers’ first trip to play Drake and then UNI on Tuesday as the Racers play in their first season in the Missouri Valley Conference.

(Undated)  — College basketball returns tomorrow.  Number-25 Kentucky will hit the road to play Number-7 Alabama.  The Wildcats are now 11-and-4 after a close win over LSU.  Number-9 Tennessee is coming off a convincing win over Mississippi State.  The Vols improved to 13-and-2 and will play South Carolina on the road.  Vanderbilt edged South Carolina in overtime.  The Commodores improved to 9-and-6 and will travel to 21st-ranked Missouri.  Louisville lost a close game to Syracuse.  The Cardinals are 2-and-14 and will host Wake Forest.  Memphis is coming off a loss to Tulane.  The Tigers dropped to 11-and-4 and will host East Carolina.
