Christian Co. School Board members sworn-in

Board members were sworn into office at Thursday’s meeting of the Christian County School Board.

While board members Tom Bell and Lindsey Clark are quite familiar with swearing their oaths of office, newly appointed board member Rebecca Pepper was sworn-in for the first time alongside them by Christian Circuit Judge Andrew Self. As part of the constitutional oath, officials must affirm that they have not taken part in a duel with deadly weapons, or acted as a second in a duel—Judge Self says that part of the oath is steeped in history.

Pepper was chosen to serve as the District 4 representative recently, following the resignation of previous board member Michael Walker.

In other action, the board approved mowing contracts for the upcoming spring season, awarding bids to West KY Mowing, Grass by Hewell, DDS Lawn Care, Abrams Lawn Service, Elite Lawn and Landscape and Yates Lawn Service for a total amount of $197,334. Director of Finance Jessica Darnall says hiring services to mow remains cheaper then creating their own division to do it.

Bell was selected by his peers to continue serving as board chair, and Clark was chosen to serve as Vice-Chair—Pepper will serve on the Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline Committee.
