Local young republicans issue censure resolution against Sen. McConnell

The Christian County Young Republicans group has issued a resolution censuring U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

It’s dated Saturday, December 17 and says it was adopted with unanimous approval of their executive committee.

Among other issues the group has with McConnell, they accuse him of accepting ‘drastic increases in government spending,’ and rebuke him for ‘repeatedly supporting raises for the debt ceiling.’

They disagree with him being okay with renaming military bases that are named in honor of Confederate leaders and they allege McConnell is violating the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution with support for legislation that would allow states to enforce ‘red flag laws.’

They also don’t like that McConnell accepted the results of the 2020 presidential election, that he used campaign funds to encourage constituents to take the COVID-19 vaccine and in their words: ‘most recently impugning the reputation of President Donald J. Trump.’

Senator McConnell made news recently by implying the former president hurt the GOP’s chances of taking back the Senate by supporting candidates who were longshots to be successful.

The resolution accuses McConnell of ‘betrayals of the Republican Party and conservative movement.’

McConnell is the longest-serving senator in the history of Kentucky and longest-serving Republican leader of the Senate in U.S. history.
