Ground broken for new Todd County Public Library

Ground was broken Thursday afternoon for construction of a new Todd County Public Library.

The library was approved earlier this year for a $212,150 a year grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives for the next 20 years to assist with debt retirement for the new construction.

The current 3,300 square foot library located on East Main Street in Elkton has served the community since 1989. The new 12,900 square foot library will be located next to the Todd County Senior Center and that’s where a crowd gathered in the cold Thursday to put shovels in the dirt.

Library Director Audrea Clairmont says the new facility will provide much-needed additional space to add programming.

She says the community is already eager to see the new building built and open.

C&C Contracting of Russellville is the contractor for the $4 million project. Construction will begin in earnest in January and it could be finished in about 12 months.
