Hearing held for Boulevard murder suspects

There was a hearing Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for the suspects charged in connection with the March 2 killing of 19-year old Alijah Watts at Casey’s General Store on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Hopkinsville police allege 20-year old Christian McKeel drove 17-year old Jonathan Weston and 16-year old Joshua Cotton to Casey’s with intent to commit a robbery. A detective testified earlier this year that a struggle ensued during the attempted robbery and that’s when Watts was shot in the abdomen.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling says attorneys for the suspects now have the evidence and there will be discussions toward a potential resolution between now and the next court date in December.

McKeel invoked his right to a speedy and public trial and complained about the representation he’s received from his public defender.

Circuit Judge John Atkins did not make any changes in McKeel’s representation and said he’s confident she’s doing the best job she can at this point.

Another hearing was set for December 7.
