Christian Fiscal Court approved a reduced property tax rate that creates a 4-percent increase in revenue Tuesday and accepted an FAA grant to plan for potential growth at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport.
The rate on real property goes from 18.6 to 18.2 cents per $100 of assessed value under the ordinance and still allows the county to take the maximum 4 percent increase in revenue due to growth and reassessments of properties. The new rate would bring in an estimated $7.1 million in receipts.
Magistrate Darrell Gustafson serves on the Airport Board and says the city and county must match the federal grant by contributing $10,000 each to receive $180,000 for planning the future of the airport—which could include construction of additional hangars.
Squire Magaline Ferguson asked Judge-Executive Steve Tribble about the status of issues regarding trash pickup by GFL—which had come under scrutiny in recent months from a number of magistrates after numerous complaints from the public.
Judge Tribble says GFL has a new general manager who has committed to addressing the problems and there seems to have been a decrease in complaints coming to the judge’s office.
In other action, magistrates approved the updated Christian County Solid Waste Management Plan, which isn’t related to the GFL contract.
