(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals managed just three hits in a 6-0 loss to the Nationals at Busch Stadium. Jack Flaherty made his return from the 60-day injured list, but he was tagged with his first loss after giving up one run in five innings. The Cardinals drop to 79-and-56, and they hold a seven-and-a-half game lead over the Brewers in the NL Central race. Jose Quintana starts for the Cardinals against the Nationals tonight.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals are sending one of their starting pitchers back down to the minors. Dakota Hudson was optioned to Triple-A Memphis yesterday. Hudson is 7-and-7 with a 4.43 ERA in 24 starts for the Cardinals this season. The move was made to make room for starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who was activated from the 60-day injured list yesterday. St. Louis also designated pitcher Junior Fernandez for assignment.
