Awards Abundant for Local College Athletes

Wildcats Earn Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Volleyball opposite Reagan Rutherford was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week. Kentucky also won two other awards with sophomore Eleanor Beavin winning SEC Defensive Player of the Week and setter Emma Grome winning SEC Setter of the Week. Kentucky freshman Barion Brown was named the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after racing for a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in his collegiate debut.

 

Kaleb Oliver Wins C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

WKU defensive back Kaleb Oliver has been named Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Blenders Eyewear. The redshirt senior turned in a big performance in the Hilltoppers’ 49-17 win over Hawaii by intercepting two passes, earning an additional pass breakup and making two tackles.

 

WKU Soccer Duo Earns C-USA Weekly Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Two members of the WKU Soccer team have earned weekly honors from Conference USA, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Alexis Bach has been named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week while Aspen Seaich was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for the conference.

 

Record-Breaking Score Earns Hackett WKU’s First Individual Title Since 2018

Lady Topper Golf freshman Sydney Hackett earned her first collegiate win in her very first start for WKU at the USA Intercollegiate over Labor Day weekend. The freshman fired a school-record 10-under 206 for her 54-hole total, including a final-round 4-under 68, to claim the championship.

 

Jackson runs away with ASUN Freshman of the Week

Austin Peay State University running back Jevon Jackson was named the ASUN Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday. The redshirt freshman from Decatur, Alabama rushed for a career-high 167 yards in Saturday’s 63-0 win against Presbyterian. Jackson also found the endzone on a five-yard run to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter. Jackson’s 167 yards on the ground is the sixth-best mark in the FCS this season and is the best single-game total by a freshman. It was the best single-game rushing performance by a Governors since Brian Snead ran for 227 yards against Tennessee State in the spring of 2021. The 5-9, 201-pound running back leads the ASUN with 167 rushing yards at the end of Week One and ranks third in the league with an average of 83.5 yards per game. Jackson also ranks third in the conference with an average of 7.0 yards per carry.
