Colonels Stumble to 43-14 Loss

The Northern Colonels came to town and flexed their muscles Friday night at the stadium of champions.

Henderson County came to visit Christian County and the Southern Colonels did not look ready.

After giving up six TD’s on the ground a week ago to Ryan Rayno and Logan County, Head Coach Blake Ladson told me the focus this week was to get back to the fundamentals of tackling. If they did not do that it might be a long, or as he phrased it, short night with the ability of the Henderson County rushing attack to make you pay.

He did not realize he was psychic.

A 36-0 score at the half, Christian County seemed outmatched.

They gave up over one hundred yards to Jordan Wright, and seventy a piece to Davis and Williams. Wright and Williams accounting for four of the five TD’s.

The fifth came after Jalen Peters botched a kickoff reception forcing the Colonels to begin a drive at their own four yard line.

Unable to get a first down, and punting from the back of their own endzone, Jordan Miles saw immense pressure on the kick and ultimately Henderson County blocked and recovered the kick for a TD.

That made it 36-0 at the half and of course started the running clock.

It would get worse before it got better.

Before we got to the second half, it was reported Miles would not return after being injured on the sixth sack given up by Christian County near the end of the first half.

Then to open the second half, Wright took the kick back eighty plus yards for a return TD.

Some positivity came in the fourth quarter when freshman Deameion “Boobie” Leavell connected with Elijah Underhill for a screen pass that Underhill took forty-nine yards to the endzone for a score.

A drive later Leavell would find Prince Northington II for a 43 yard house call, and that would finalize our score at 43-14.

Those were Leavell’s only two completions.

Next week the Colonels will once again try and bounce back from a tough night when they go on the road to Madisonville-North Hopkins.

The Maroons are 2-1 with a loss to Union County in week one before back-to-back wins over Caldwell and Crittenden County.
