The ribbon is cut for the Joy Closet

After already serving the community for a year to the day, Joy Closet finally cut the ribbon on their facility on Belmont Street Thursday.

It was a full house in the part of the building—that was once Belmont Elementary—as people gathered to celebrate and support the foster family support program that is the Joy Closet. Founder Heather Gray says the Joy Closet is meeting a need that has existed in the community for some time, by providing everything a child might need as they are placed with a foster family.

She says they’re so excited to make it all official on the day of their one-year anniversary.

The Joy Closet is designed as if it were a store—children and their families can shop on their own time, try on clothes, play games and relax as they do so, having a real boutique experience, with staff saying it gives the children the chance to make their own decisions during a time of turmoil.
