Fire set in public bathroom investigated as arson

An arson investigation is underway by Hopkinsville police after suspects set fire to a trash can inside a bathroom at the Debow Recreational Complex on Thomas Street Saturday night.

It happened about 7 p.m. and a witness told HPD that unknown juvenile suspects set the trash can on fire, which caused damage to the wall and paper towel dispenser.

There was approximately $300 worth of damage to the wall and towel dispenser, according to the report, which says it’s being investigated as second-degree arson—which is a felony.
