The man who arrived at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen early Monday morning is thought to be connected to a home invasion investigation in Logan County where the homeowner fired a gun at the intruder.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a call Monday morning about 9:30 a.m. from a man who reported a home invasion in the 4300 block of Deerlick Road that happened at 1 a.m.
The man told police he was in bed when he heard a loud noise and went to the door to be sure it was locked.
As he approached the door, someone began attempting to make forced entry and the suspect eventually began to come inside.
That’s when the homeowner said he fired one round from a gun toward the man who was threatening to physically harm him.
The perpetrator then fled the scene in an unknown direction in an unknown vehicle.
About an hour later, Hopkinsville police were notified of a man who arrived at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center emergency room with a gunshot wound to the abdomen that he claimed he sustained at a party near the monument in Fairview.
He was treated and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon McPherson says that once out of surgery, the man refused to cooperate with the investigation, wouldn’t give any details to troopers on how he was shot and said he didn’t want to press charges against anyone involved.
Investigation by KSP and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office determined the shooting did not happen in Fairview and Sheriff Tracy White notified the Logan County Sheriff’s Department about the injured man.
The news release says while the investigation is ongoing, criminal charges are pending at this time.
Police have not identified the wounded man as the investigation continues.
