Grand jury to hear case against rape suspect

A Christian County Grand Jury will soon hear the charges against the suspect accused of raping a young woman last week on the Hopkinsville rail-trail.

Forty-three-year-old Jason Morse of Hopkinsville is charged with first-degree rape, strangulation in the first-degree and tampering with evidence and he was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning in Christian District Court.

His attorney waived that hearing and District Jude Lindsey Adams forwarded the case to the grand jury for consideration.

Hopkinsville police say the victim had been walking with earbuds in listening to music when Morse allegedly grabbed her from behind in the area of the 3700 block of Bahama Drive. He allegedly raped, choked and threatened to kill the victim and then fled the area on foot.

Morse remains in the Christian County Jail on a half-million-dollar bond.
