Trial was postponed Monday in Christian Circuit Court for a man indicted for an alleged sexual assault of a woman in September of last year.
As previously reported, Hopkinsville police arrested 47-year old Tony Snyder of Hopkinsville in October, alleging he engaged in non-consensual sex with the female victim in the early morning hours of September 30 while she was deeply asleep or unconscious and unable to give consent due to drugs.
The victim told police she woke up to find Snyder forcing sex on her and she began screaming.
Public defender Rick Sandborn represents Snyder and asked for a continuance as he appeared via zoom, while also saying he’s been told by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen that Snyder’s indictment will be amended down to a different charge.
Bolen didn’t elaborate on any potential change, but says Snyder has admitted to having sex with the victim—he just claims it was consensual.
Judge John Atkins rescheduled the trial for August 29 and 30 and released Snyder from jail until that time, though he will only be allowed to be at home, work or at his attorney’s office.
