Unemployment up from April to May locally, down from a year ago

Unemployment was up from April to May in seven of nine Pennyrile counties, but it was down in all nine counties from one year ago.

Christian County’s jobless rate was 4.8 percent, up a tenth of a point from April and down a full point from the May 2021 rate.

It equated to 1,206 people who are looking for work and unable to find it.

Todd County has Kentucky’s 10th-lowest unemployment rate at an even 3 percent, up a tenth from the previous month and down six-tenths from a year ago.

The jobless rate in Trigg County is 4.1 percent, up three-tenths from April and down from 4.9 percent in May of 2021.

Muhlenberg County had the region’s highest unemployment 5.7 percent.

The statewide average was 3.8 percent and the national number was 3.4 percent.
