Western Kentucky continues to roast in a historic heat wave as the excessive heat warning for the region continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.
High temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s will combine with the humidity to create heat index values of 100 to 107 degrees, causing continued danger for those working outdoors. Those folks should stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in an air-conditioned building or in a shady area.
Be sure outdoor pets have shade and water and never leave a child or pet inside a hot car for any period of time.
TVA is also asking residents in the region to voluntarily conserve power during peak afternoon energy usage hours—especially 2 to 5 p.m.—and Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric says they’re just hoping folks will set their thermostats up by a degree or two and postpone using big appliances until off-peak times.
Gilkey says TVA doesn’t anticipate having any issues meeting demand, but keeping your home a couple degrees warmer can also save you money on your electric bill.
There could be some relative slight relief from the heat Saturday with highs in the upper 80’s and Sunday with a high near 90, but temperatures are expected to ramp back up into the upper 90’s Monday and Tuesday of next week.
