State Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County has announced he will not run for Kentucky Attorney General in 2023.
Westerfield lost a close AG race in 2015 to Andy Beshear and withdrew from the race in 2019 before the Republican primary.
In a statement on Twitter, Weterfield says “While I care deeply about the work, I will not be running for attorney general in 2023.”
He continues, “The office is important—from defending our laws and protecting our commonwealth to engaging in relationships with prosecutors and law enforcement, community leaders and policy makers. I trust Kentucky voters will choose our next AG wisely.”
Current Attorney General Daniel Cameron has announced he’s running for governor and former U.S. Prosecutor Russell Coleman announced last month he’ll seek the Republican nomination for the post.
