Reds & Braves lose, Cardinals & Cubs win Sunday games

The Cincinnati Reds didn’t allow any hits in a 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Pittsburgh scored the game’s only run on an RBI ground out from Ke’Bryan Hayes in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hunter Greene was tagged with the loss after pitching seven-and-a-third innings and giving up just one run. The game doesn’t go down as an official no-hitter because the Reds only pitched eight innings. Cincinnati is off today before beginning a two game set at the Cleveland Guardians tomorrow.

Elsewhere in the National League: Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright are rewriting the record books. The duo set a new MLB record for wins by battery mates in the Cardinals’ 15-6 rout of the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium. They now have 203 victories together and their 311 career starts rank third all-time. Molina homered and drove in four for the Redbirds, who visit the New York Mets for a series starting tonight.

Frank Schwindel singled in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as the Chicago Cubs topped the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2. Rafael Ortega and Patrick Wisdom homered for the Cubs who host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight.

The Atlanta Braves lost to the San Diego Padres 7-3 in 11 innings. The Braves open a series this evening at the Milwaukee Brewers.
