Todd Fiscal Court hears from KYTC on upcoming work

Todd Fiscal Court heard from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet on its Rural and Secondary Road Program for the upcoming fiscal year Friday morning.

Butler Road will be resurfaced from Tabernacle Road to KY 171 and the cabinet will resurface three and a half miles of KY 107 near Clifty from the Pond River Bridge to KY 181.

Lucas Gilliam with the Transportation Cabinet says several projects from the current fiscal year are wrapping up or still to begin, including resurfacing of KY 181 from Elkton to North Todd, including safety upgrades at the Highland Lick Road intersection.

Todd Fiscal Court is also getting approximately $200,000 in discretionary funds to appropriate on road improvements as it chooses.

Meanwhile, there were multiple mentions of recent tragedies in Todd County that claimed the life of a five-year old by drowning Sunday near Clifty and a skid steer accident Thursday that killed a 12-year old on Old Railroad Lane.

Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says it’s been a hard week for first responders—many who went to both incidents.

Magistrates approved funds to replace radios for Todd County Sheriff’s Deputy David Hutcheson and Deputy Emergency Management Director Perry Knight, who jumped into the swimming pool while wearing their radios Sunday in an attempt to save the five-year old boy.

County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan reminded that Tuesday night is the deadline to log onto the state portal to request an absentee ballot for the upcoming May primary election.
