William Turner honored for 50 years of service as Rotary Auction remains successful

Official local historian William Turner was honored for a half-century of service to Rotary Thursday night as the 72nd WHOP Rotary Radio Auction continues to move along ahead of last year’s pace.

Ninety-nine items sold for about $18,500 Thursday, the diner and sweet shop brought in $6,100 and the Hour and Goat Club received another $18,300 in cash donations. Through four nights, the auction has raised almost $317,000—about $133,000 ahead of the 2021 pace.

Meanwhile, it was Rotarian Chris Gilkey who honored his longtime friend William Turner with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Rotary Foundation presented Campanile Productions with a $10,000 grant to continue its productions featuring youth and adults alike at the Alhambra.

The country ham basket recently auctioned off at the Salute to Agriculture Breakfast was donated by Hutson Ag. to the Rotary Auction and it’s on the Big Board, with all money to go to the recently created Troy Goode Scholarship Fund.

There was also another cash donor matching up to $10,000 for the scholarship fund.

The auction resumes at 6 tonight on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com, the Hopkinsville Rotary website and Facebook page and on Spectrum Channel 376.
