General Assembly heading into final week before veto recess

The final week of the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly before the veto recess is upon us and it’s expected to be a hectic time.

Ninth District state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says a budget compromise will likely be approved by both chambers, in addition to a road plan.

Senator Whitney Westerfield is hopeful legislation that would give Christian County a second family court judge and Trigg, Caldwell, Lyon and Livingston County a second circuit judge will pass the full Senate this week without changes.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says the local delegation has been working together to try and get all of Christian County’s transportation budget priorities in the bill.

Meanwhile, the Senate could still give final approval to House Bill 277, which would create a smoother pathway for aspiring teachers who have college degrees, but who are not certified, to work while going back to college.

After the legislature concludes its two days of work this week, it will take a 10-day recess before coming back into session in April and possibly overriding vetoes from Governor Andy Beshear.
