Congressman James Comer made a stop in Oak Grove Thursday afternoon for a town hall event where he spoke with constituents and discussed ongoing events in Washington D.C.
At the top of everyone’s minds is the invasion of Russia into Ukraine, and Congressman Comer calls the situation in eastern Europe ‘terrible’—he says the United States must respond with severe sanctions, but he worries what the cost will be to American citizens.
He thinks there were a lot of factors that led to what is occurring, and he says while he supports having a presence with NATO, he does not support sending U.S. troops into Ukraine.
Gas prices are likely to increase, along with other items, but Congressman Comer says the nation could offset that by becoming energy independent as soon as possible.
Locals are already feeling immediate effects from the invasion, as many soldiers from Fort Campbell have already been deployed to eastern Europe to provide support to allies—Congressman Comer says there’s little to no support in Congress at this time to send those troops into the country.
The Congressman says he also worries about possible cyber-security issues that could arise not just abroad but, in the U.S., and he says the nation will have to stay alert and ready to respond to any such actions.
