School board approves waivers related to high school consolidation project

The Christian County School Board voted on several measures related to the consolidated high school construction project at a special called meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting had been postponed from its usual time last Thursday due to weather, and on Wednesday the board voted unanimously to request a waiver to ‘decentralize’ media centers throughout the building.  Assistant Superintendent Josh Hunt says this will pave the way for each ‘academy’ in the facility to have their own media centers, along with an overall media center for all to use.

Hunt also requested the approve waivers to not have natural lighting in eight instructional rooms—he says roughly 95 percent of classrooms will have windows, but there are several interior rooms that would not have them.

He says they would attempt to implement ‘borrowed’ natural light options in those rooms if possible—such as tubular daylighting devices.

In other action, the board approved the schematic design review, which addressed requests for more information and clarification from the Kentucky Department of Education about aspects such as land elevation, natural lighting in the building and more.
