Trial date set in College Street murder case

Proceedings will move forward in the murder case against Kachelle Isbell, after it was determined she will have a public defender and a trial date was set in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday.

Proceedings had been continued and delayed recently due to unexpected issues with private attorneys, but public defender Doug Moore says he will now represent Isbell—who is accused in the April shooting death of Anthony Johnson. Special prosecutor Jim Coconaugher says now that they know who is representing her, they can begin considering possible resolutions.

In the meantime, Judge Andrew Self went ahead and set a trial date of January 9, 2023, with a pretrial hearing set for March 23 with the hope of resolving it by that time.

As previously reported, Hopkinsville police responded to 1504 College Street a few minutes before 1 a.m. April 3 and found 33-year-old Anthony Johnson of Waddell Circle with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel.

An arrest citation for Isbell says she was at the scene with a .38 caliber pistol when police arrived and she allegedly admitted to shooting Johnson.
