After working around the clock and during freezing rain, sleet, snow and some of the coldest weather of the season, linemen from Pennyrile Electric and out of state contractors have restored power to all 11,573 members who lost it during Thursday’s ice storm.
Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile says the last member’s lights came back on about 6 p.m. Saturday.
He says a vast majority of the issues were concentrated to Trigg and north Christian County, allowing crews to focus on those areas.
Gilkey says while upgrades to the system help prevent some outages and can make it easier to fix in some instances, it still takes men, trucks and equipment to get the power back on.
Mankind has struggled against the weather since the beginning of humanity and Gilkey says if there’s enough ice, there will always be problems.
