Most of Western Kentucky is now under a Winter Storm Warning for Thursday as a wintry mix will move into the region.
The warning is from 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday for Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Caldwell and Lyon counties and areas to the north and west. Up to two inches of snow and sleet are expected there, in addition to at least a quarter inch of ice accumulation through freezing rain.
Meteorologist Andy Lesage with the National Weather Service in Paducah said during a conference call Tuesday afternoon that while Christian, Todd and Trigg counties are currently not under any watches, warnings or advisories—that could certainly change.
He says the forecast for the southern Pennyrile region is likely come into better focus closer to the event.
Travel impacts will be the largest issue where wintry precipitation falls in western Kentucky.
Power outages likely won’t be widespread, but are possible in areas that receive the most freezing rain.
