Governor Andy Beshear was in Elkton Tuesday afternoon to announced Cleaner Water Grant Program awards to the Todd County Water District and all three incorporated cities in Todd County.
The Todd County Water District is receiving just over $12,000 to install six master meter vaults in remote areas of the county that will provide multiple readings each day and help identify potential problems in the system.
Trenton has been awarded almost $147,000 for rehabilitation of the Trenton Wastewater Treatment plant, Elkton is receiving $146,000 for improvements at the water storage tank site on Morningside Drive and Guthrie is getting $146,000 to replace the faulty generator that services the water system—an improvement the governor says seems especially important with a potential winter storm on the horizon.
The governor noted there is at least $250 million for the same program included in the budget he proposed and the one that’s already passed the House.
Governor Beshear reiterated his message that Kentucky has been on an economic development roll, noting the recent grand opening in Guthrie for Novelis and their announcement that they’re already expanding.
The governor also complimented the Historic 1835 Todd County Courthouse where the ceremony was hosted, saying he wants to find ways to help as Historic Todd County, Inc. plans more renovations to the building.
Governor Beshear also made several announcements in Russellville, including that the Logan County Water District is getting $261,000 to replace a section of deteriorated piping on the north side of Russellville.
