COVID numbers dropping in Kentucky

Kentucky had less cases of COVID-19 last week than the week before and the state’s positivity rate seems to be falling faster than the case numbers.

Governor Andy Beshear announced last week saw 74,376 cases of COVID-19—about 7,000 less than the record high from the week before and the first drop in several weeks.

The positivity rate actually dropped lower than it was two weeks ago.

In more good news, about 5,900 more Kentuckians got vaccinated over the weekend and just under 13,000 Kentuckians got their booster shot.

Hospitalizations continue to remain about stagnant and the governor expects Kentucky to surpass the grim milestone of 13,000 COVID deaths this week. The governor announced 14 more deaths Monday.

Governor Beshear announced the hiring of Col. Jeremy Slinker as the next director of Kentucky Emergency Management, replacing Michael Dossett, who is retiring in a couple months after nearly four decades of service in various capacities.

Slinker thanked Dossett and the governor and said he’s ready to serve.

Col. Slinker spent 25 years with Kentucky State Police in various supervisory roles before becoming the director of rangers for the Kentucky State Parks System.
