The SUV that went off Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and into the Red River in a winter weather-related accident early Sunday morning as recovered from the water Monday afternoon and the vehicle was unoccupied.
A news release says the Clarksville Police Department along with Clarksville Fire and Rescue, Montgomery County EMS and the Montgomery County Rescue Squad worked in conjunction with Jones Brothers Towing and Trucking to recover the automobile.
The divers from Montgomery County Rescue Squad were able to hook up the tow cables to the vehicle and it was removed from the river. The vehicle was a Chevrolet Suburban and when first responders searched the automobile it was unoccupied. Police say the owners of the vehicle are aware of the situation and the incident remains under investigation.
As previously reported, a Clarksville police officer was traveling on Wilma near College Street about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and noticed power lines down near the Red River Bridge.
Further investigation led to the location of vehicle debris near the side of the bridge, leading toward the river.
Roads were already slick and icy when the incident occurred.
