Legislators discuss rest of 2022 session

Legislators head back to Frankfort tomorrow for the third week of the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

Legislative, congressional and supreme court redistricting has been passed by both chambers, but neither comprehensive or small-scale judicial redistricting has been attempted.

Chief Justice John Minton recommended that Christian and Trigg counties receive an additional circuit judge seat. Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County supports the recommendations, but isn’t sure there’s support in Frankfort to make any changes this session.

There’s been significant discussion on social media about increases to property tax bills for used vehicles this year due to increased values in the midst of the pandemic and state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke is sponsoring legislation that would freeze the value of used automobiles at 2021 values.

Meanwhile, Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville is promoting a bill that would include a student loan forgiveness program for Kentucky teachers.

Lawmakers are off today for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
