School board moves forward with general contractor for high school consolidation project

The Christian County School Board chose to reject moving forward with construction management, and will instead use general contractors for the consolidated high school project following a special calling meeting Thursday afternoon.

Assistant Superintendent Josh Hunt made the recommendation, saying the board had asked him to look into price ranges and bids for construction management, and he felt it would be best to not take that route.

He said it was the cost that dissuaded him from that option, with Director of Finance Jessica Darnall saying the fee would have been in the millions by the end of the construction project.

The board unanimously approved moving forward with a general contractor for the project.

The Christian County Public School System will also be keeping masking optional in schools for the time being—masks will remain required on school buses, which is a federal mandate. A news release states, CCPS officials continue to review COVID-related metrics daily to determine the COVID saftey protocols it the student community. That includes community incident rates, district quarantine numbers and local hospital capacity. Based on that data, CCPS can revisit the mask guidelines and COVID safety protocols as needed.
