Human Rights Commission irons out details for MLK March and Program Monday

The Human Rights Commission has released information about the Martin Luther King Day March and Celebration that will take place Monday.

According to a news release, the Human Rights Commission is partnering with the Christian County Public School System, Hopkinsville Community College, Men2Be and the Salvation Army to bring the MLK March and Program, starting at 8 a.m. Monday. The march will start promptly at 8 a.m. at the HCC administration building, head down Talbert Drive and North Elm Street before heading down Glass Avenue to conclude at the Christian County Middle School Performing Arts Center.

MLK day is a day of service to others, and Salvation Army will be onsite to collect any gently used or new coats at the PAC to help those in need within the community.

Tom Bell, State Farm Agent and Christian County Public School Board Chair, is issuing a school challenge to all youth within Christian County. The school with the most attended will earn the traveling trophy to showcase on their campus.

The program will take place after the march, featuring keynote speaker Dr. David Kabithe, a general surgeon affiliated with Jennie Stuart Medical Group. HRC and community partners encourage people to wear face masks and get vaccinated, boosted and tested for COVID-19 before participating in the march or program. The safety protocols for the program, a mask will be required and attendees to observe social distancing. It will be broadcast live on HRC’s Facebook.
