Gov. declares state of emergency for severe weather, flooding across state

Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency across Kentucky due to severe weather and flash flooding.

It was the second time in in the last month he’s had to declare an emergency and the governor says the severe weather caused flash flooding, loss of power and damage of public infrastructure and private properties.

He noted the touchdowns of possible tornadoes in Hopkinsville and Taylor County and said flash flooding in Green, Barren, Taylor, Adair, Owsley, Breathitt and Casey counties resulted in numerous road closures and water rescues.

There was also reports of significant damage at a shopping center in Bowling Green, where over a dozen people were killed in a tornado on December 11.

Governor Beshear says, “It is devastating that we are once again experiencing severe weather just weeks after the deadly tornadoes hit Western Kentucky. Sadly, some counties have been affected by both of these events. We will continue to monitor the weather and provide needed updates. Everyone be aware, stay safe and seek shelter when advised.”
