City council approves municipal orders, hears financial report

Hopkinsville City Council heard the monthly financial report and approved several municipal orders during Tuesday evening’s meeting.

Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin says that based off payroll tax collections so far this fiscal year, it’s looking likely that the city will experience a budget shortfall, though he is hopeful the shortfall amount will improve in the coming months.

He says the council crafted a budget based on 2019 numbers, but the lingering impacts to employment caused by the pandemic means they’re just not reaching those payroll projections.

City Council approved a municipal order authorizing $231,094 in CARES Act funding to go towards the Future Pension Obligation Reserve, with one no vote—also approved was allowing certain public safety employees to have ‘floating’ holiday extensions, due to several employees being unable to take those days off due to insufficient staffing. Those employees have until March of 2022 to use those holiday days or lose them.

In other action, council approved that up to $12,280 of American Rescue Plan funds to be used by the Christian County Health Department to advertise COVID-19 vaccines on radio stations out of Tennessee.
