CCHS student reportedly had handgun near school

A Christian County High School student was taken into custody Tuesday morning after he was allegedly found with a gun in his possession.

According to the Christian County Public School System, at approximately 10:30 a.m. a male student was found near the old Christian County Middle School building and was stopped by school administrators. They discovered the student, who was not named, to be in possession of a handgun.

The student was taken into custody by the Hopkinsville Police Department and the 17-year old male was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a handgun by a minor and giving an officer false identifying information.

The high school was not placed on lockdown, due to the incident taking place off campus and the student being apprehended immediately.
