Trial date vacated in College Street murder case

The trial date was vacated and a new pretrial hearing was set in the murder case against Kachelle Isbell Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court.

Isbell, who is accused in the April fatal shooting death of Anthony Johnson on College Street, appeared virtually before Judge Andrew Self Wednesday, along with public defender Doug Moore, who informed the court that he no longer represents Isbell.  She had hired private attorney John Stewart to represent her, but he unexpectedly passed away recently—Isbell told the court she expects to have a new attorney sometime in December.

Judge Self says that a March trial date, which was set in this case, wouldn’t be possible for any new counsel brought to be ready for, so he vacated that date and set a pretrial hearing for December 22.

As previously reported, Hopkinsville police responded to 1504 College Street a few minutes before 1 a.m. April 3 and found 33-year-old Anthony Johnson of Waddell Circle with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel.

An arrest citation for Isbell says she was at the scene with a .38 caliber pistol when police arrived and she allegedly admitted to shooting Johnson.
