Kiwanis, Rotary kick off Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign

The Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringing campaign kicked off during a joint meeting of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs Tuesday, meaning you will soon hear the sound of bells in the air as you’re doing your shopping.

Salvation Army Lieutenants Roger and Lindsey Galabeas led the club members in song and games, as well as a small competition to kickoff the fundraising efforts, where the two clubs raised $1,111 just to get things started.  Lt. Roger says the Salvation Army and those who would volunteer, are called to act, and the Red Kettle campaign helps provide more than anyone realizes to those in need.

He says their goal to raise is $100,000, which will stay local to help people right here in the community.

Lt. Lindsey says the Salvation Army has provided over 25,000 of food through their food pantry, provided over 7,000 nights of shelter and has served nearly 26,000 meals just through their soup kitchen alone.

She told the story of her grandmother, who lived through the Great Depression, who found hope and help through the Salvation Army when she was a child and her family was going without food during the holidays.  It inspired her to a life of a service with the Salvation Army, and she says that every cent donated by generous people will make a difference in someone’s life.
