Gov. urges safety during the holiday while COVID cases increase slightly

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on COVID-19 in the Commonwealth Monday, urging everyone to stay safe during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The governor says things are increasing the in Commonwealth when it comes to COVID-19, including new cases—he reported 2,048 new cases from Saturday, along with 42 deaths, Sunday saw 1,018 cases and 15 deaths, while Monday had 822 cases and 44 deaths, which Governor Beshear says is the highest number of cases on those days in about four weeks.

Hospitalizations are also back on the rise, along with the positivity rate, which is now at 6.56 percent. Governor Beshear says cases are significantly increasing in Europe now, but thanks to vaccines and other mitigation efforts, that doesn’t have to mean the same will happen here.

The governor says people have plenty of opportunities to get the vaccine or a booster, to make sure your Thanksgiving gatherings are as safe as possible for all attendants.

He also encouraged small sized gatherings, and if those who are attending are not vaccinated, to wear face masks while indoors and not eating. Approximately 2.6 million Kentuckians have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date.
