The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department has announced that the Hopkinsville Electric System downtown Christmas parade will take place Saturday, December 11.
According to a news release, the parade will get underway at 5:15 p.m. December 11 after being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 parade theme will be “Home for the Holidays” as our community and country continue to rally from the pandemic’s impact.
There will be several co-grand marshals for this year’s parade, celebrating and honoring local first responders and health care heroes, with a representative from the Christian County Health Department, Jennie Stuart Health, Hopkinsville Fire Department, Hopkinsville Police Department, Christian Co. Sheriff’s Office and Christian County Emergency Management. Traditional display units and Christmas-themed floats will be joined once again by holiday decorated golf carts. The Christmas Parade Golf Cart Division — sponsored by Western Hills Municipal Golf Course — allows for entries that are less costly or time-consuming to build.
Cash prizes will be presented for the traditional floats and golf carts. The deadline to enter a float in the parade is Friday, November 19. The cost to enter a float into the parade is $20 and a new toy and registration forms are available for pickup at the Thomas Street Rec Center at 2600 Thomas Street.
The Community Christmas Tree Lighting takes place at Founders Square on December 10 at 6 p.m. and Skating On the Square will return for a two-day run on the ice December 11 and 12, also at Founders Square.
