Additional charges are possible against a Lyon County man after an autopsy determined an elderly woman he was sole caretaker of died earlier this month as a result of elder abuse and neglect.
As previously reported, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year old Darrell Hammonds of Kuttawa for wanton abuse or neglect of an adult after Virginia Bozarth of Kuttawa was found dead in her home.
The autopsy was performed last week and Hammonds’ bond was increased from $50,000 to $100,000 following a preliminary hearing last week in Lyon District Court.
The judge also sent the case to a grand jury for consideration and Sheriff Brent White says Hammonds could face a more serious charge relating to one of Kentucky’s homicide statutes.
