Arrest made for early-morning stabbing

A Hopkinsville man was arrested for felony assault Monday morning after he allegedly stabbed another man at a South Main Street apartment.

The victim went to the door of an apartment on South Main covered in blood about 3:45 a.m. and was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

He was able to tell Hopkinsville police that he had been stabbed by 43-year old Tremayne Welch of Hopkinsville, who was located also covered in blood inside another apartment.

An arrest citation says Welch claimed he and the victim had been cleaning and consuming drugs in Welch’s apartment and that Welch was falling asleep on a couch when the victim approached him in a sexual manner with his pants off and attempted to make sexual contact.

That’s when Welch reportedly said he grabbed a knife that was on a nearby table and stabbed the victim several times before fleeing the apartment.

Welch is charged with first-degree assault.
